Driving diversity in patient recruitment [case study]

Sickle cell disease (SCD) refers to a genetically inherited set of red blood cell disorders that are present from birth. Millions of people are impacted by SCD each year, but it disproportionately impacts Black and African American populations, occurring in about 1 out of every 365 Black or African-American births.

Our client, an electronic medical records company, aimed to collect medical records for SCD patients to compile a data set with real-world evidence. This data set would be donated to researchers to progress SCD research. Because Antidote has the unique ability to perform diversity-focused recruitment in communities of color, the client approached us to help with this project.

Utilizing our expertise in reaching specific audiences, we crafted an outreach strategy designed to resonate with the target audience. Through curated imagery, copy, and third-party data, we were able to engage candidates with diverse backgrounds to take part in the research. This resulted in Antidote delivering 550 referrals to the client, 35 whom were qualified.
