About Depression

Depression is a common mood disorder that causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest. Symptoms can also include a lack of energy, trouble sleeping, difficulty with decision making, and persistent feelings of worthlessness or guilt.

Because depression is a complex disease, the exact cause of an individual's diagnosis can be difficult to determine. Risk factors include a history of abuse, family history of depression, serious illness, death or loss, and a recent major life change, including moving or changing jobs.
